The Speech!

By J. Osborn

Do you hear that?  Listen closely – because the silence is deafening!  President Obama has succeeded in doing the impossible AGAIN – he has left the pundits of the world absolutely speechless!

It won’t last, of course.  In a few hours the web will be filled of critics and supporters analyzing every phrase and participle.  Every viewer will find their own unique bone of contention with what was said, and what was missing.

Personally, I think this is one of the greatest speeches in history.  Not just American History, but World history.  No world leader has ever so boldly challenged the entire world in such a public forum.  To challenge Muslims to heal the divisions between Sunni and Shi’a?  To pledge unbreakable allegiance to Israel, but condemn the construction of new settlements?  To challenge the World, including the US, so respect minorities and women’s freedoms?  To boldly confront religious persecution?  To defend America’s actions in Afghanistan and condemn America’s actions in Iraq?  All in one speech, in the middle of Egypt?

He quoted verse from the Koran, the Torah and the Bible.  He compared the struggle for Palestinian liberation to the Civil Rights struggle.  He condemned violent extremism and challenged extremists as apostates! He challenged us to create a world of equals without nuclear weapons.

Never have I witnessed any world leader, let alone an American President, demonstrate such intelligence, wisdom, strength, EMPATHY, compassion and foresight all in one speech.

I walk away from this speech confident in the following:

1.  President Obama will walk away from this speech as one of the most popular leaders in the World.  The challenge and vision he laid out in this speech touched the hearts of billions.

2.  President Obama has written a HUGE check to the world with his words – let’s hope enough Americans will rally to his cause and help make those promises realities.

3.  I’m 100% confident that most of the things that President Obama talked about in his speech will not come to pass in the next four years.

4.  I’m 100% confident that at least a few of those things will come to pass – and that will be more than what most Presidents or World Leaders have ever accomplished, and it will set the groundwork for a brighter (or at least less violent) future.

Here’s the entire speech in four parts (thanks Fox News – you did a much better job of presenting it than CNN).  Watch for yourself and make your own opinions.  Personally, I’ve never been more proud of any President in my entire life!
